The bright twinkling lights and a festive parade that culminates with the appearance of Santa Claus can make anyone feel like a kid again, and that is why Christmas in Gatlinburg is so special.

The Christmas seasonal fun begins with the Winter Magic Kickoff and Chili Cookoff on November 9th from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. in downtown Gatlinburg. The event features the ceremonial lighting of more than 3 million lights throughout Gatlinburg and music and chili eating contests. More than 25 vendors from area restaurants and businesses will also be on hand. The street event is free and tickets for chili sampling are $10.

The Great Smoky Christmas Arts and Crafts Show will take place from November 28th to December 4th at the Gatlinburg Convention Center and is a wonderful opportunity to see some of the best craftsmen and artisans from all around the U.S. This annual event provides an excellent shopping excursion to pick up unique handcrafted gifts.

One of the favorite Christmas events in Gatlinburg is the Fantasy of Lights Christmas Parade, which takes place on December 2nd in downtown Gatlinburg. The parade route begins at Traffic Light 1A on East Parkway and travels on the main parkway to Traffic Light 10. The Christmas Parade features giant balloons, marching bands, equestrian units and Santa Clause. More than 60,000 visitors come to this annual event.
