October events showcase culture

  • September 29, 2015

One of the attractions that draw visitors to the Gatlinburg area is the rich Appalachian artistic heritage and this culture will be demonstrated throughout the 40th Annual Craftsman Fair.

More than 175 artisans and craftspeople will be demonstrating their artistic skills, answering visitor questions, and selling their arts and crafts during the Craftsman Fair from October 8 to 16 at the Gatlinburg Convention Center. Handcrafted items like pottery, baskets, paintings, and jewelry of the highest quality will be available for purchase from the artisans themselves.

In addition to the finest craftspeople, talented bluegrass and gospel musicians will be performing daily throughout the event.

October is a big month for Ober Gatlinburg. Throughout the month, visitors can enjoy Bavarian fun, music, food and culture during OktOberfest. Indulge in bratwurst, schnitzel, and top it off with Schwarzwalder Kirschtorte, which is a decadent dessert of layers of chocolate cake, chocolate cream, cherries, and whipped cream frosting. It wouldn’t be a traditional Oktoberfest without a selection of ales, German-style wines and an Oompah band. Plus, the aerial tramway at Ober Gatlinburg provides some of the best views in all of Gatlinburg.

With these and other great events throughout the month, October is a wonderful time in Gatlinburg. Smoky Mountain area tourism is predicted to increase this fall thanks to all the great activities, so it’s the perfect time to plan your visit. Staying in the heart of downtown at the Edgewater Hotel and Conference Center allows visitors to make the most of their time in beautiful Gatlinburg.
