If you’re staying at Edgewater Hotel and find yourself strolling through downtown Gatlinburg, take a detour into The Village shopping center. Tucked away among the brick pathways and quaint storefronts (right across from Boudicca’s Celtic Pub) is a little gem that’s easy to miss but worth seeking out—Maddi Mae’s Cafe & Creamery.
This charming spot is a cozy mix of cafe and creamery, serving up everything from locally roasted coffee to hand-dipped ice cream and made-to-order rolled creations. And while it might be best known for sweet treats, don’t sleep on the savory side of the menu—especially if you’re a fan of a little heat.
On my last visit, I tried what they call their spicy breakfast—a warm croissant sandwich with eggs, sausage, melted cheese, and just the right amount of jalapeños to wake you up. It was simple, but absolutely delicious. The kind of breakfast that hits the spot whether you’re starting a day of hiking in the Smokies or just easing into a lazy morning exploring downtown.
Owned by Joe and Delanie Domzalski since 2016, Maddi Mae’s has a welcoming, family-run vibe. Seating is limited inside, but that’s part of the charm—and besides, you can take your food or drink out into The Village courtyard and enjoy it beside the fountain. It’s a peaceful little corner of Gatlinburg that feels worlds away from the hustle of the Parkway, even though it’s just steps off the street.
In addition to breakfast sandwiches, Maddi Mae’s offers a variety of coffee drinks (hot or iced), smoothies, slushies, and specialty sodas. If you’ve got a sweet tooth, you’ll want to check out their hand-dipped Mayfield ice cream, soft serve, and their “Maddi Rolls”—rolled ice cream with all kinds of fun toppings. The place may be small, but the menu is packed with options.
Whether you’re after a light lunch, a caffeine fix, or a frozen treat, Maddi Mae’s makes a great pit stop while you’re downtown. And best of all? It’s just a short walk from Edgewater Hotel. Perfect for grabbing a cup of coffee on your way out in the morning—or a cone of ice cream on your way back in the afternoon.
